What is Media Sales?

In a nutshell media sales is selling advertising space, however the thing about nutshells is that they don't tell you how tasty the nut is. There is a whole number of different areas available within media sales, whether it be Consumer Publishing, TV, Radio, Outdoor and Ambient, National Press or large Business-to-Business publishing houses.

Here at Clement Media, we have established relationships with leading companies in all of the areas above.

The revenue generated from selling media space is the driving factor behind the world's media industry. Without media sales you would be facing the prospect of the very bleak world indeed…just imagine no Sky channels, no celebrity gossip mags, no adverts to look at on the tube so you have to resort at making eye contact with the dodgy character across from you …it doesn't bear thinking about!

Media sales is an industry that is constantly evolving and innovating. We are witnessing change all the time, from the fragmentation of television to the mushrooming commercial potential of the Internet. As media continues to expand, the power and knowledge of media sales analysts will have an ever-greater effect.

Whether in traditional publishing or new media the challenge remains the same: to research the clients' needs and then to demonstrate how your product provides a solution. A client-focused approach is essential in order to succeed, if the client is happy they will use you again.

Some of the best bits about media sales include Soho lunches, presenting to advertising agencies, attending award ceremonies, exhibitions and working with a crowd of like-minded people. However at the end of the day it is money orientated profession and sales requires high levels of professionalism coupled with tenacity and determination to succeed. It is a multi-faceted role, which involves continuous client approach via the telephone sometimes followed up by face-to-face meetings, deal negotiation, writing and delivering presentations along with excellent administration skills and an out-going personality. In order to fully understand an advertiser's needs, a media sales executive will also have be up-to-date with the latest industry developments not only in media but also in their clients field.
